Picky Picks for Week 5

Hello again everybody!  Solid Week 4 in the books with a record of 10-6.  Week 5 means teams hitting their bye weeks.  I will borrow from the USC Trojans and call this week “Tell the Truth” Week.  Are the teams that have started out fast “that” good?  Same goes for the teams that have stumbled out of the gate.  Let’s see what this Sunday Funday brings…

Eagles at Bills (Over 50.5)

Weather not a problem yet in western New York.  Bills score a lot. No secret there.  The Eagles defense is a train wreck.  The secondary looks lost out there.  Lots of ponts in this one.  I think Philly might even eek this one out but it will be shootout.

Titans at Steelers (Over 39.5)

Has there been a more of surprise than Matt Hasselbeck and the 3-1 Tennessee Titans?  Even without his favorite target, Kenny Brit, Hasselbeck is finding a way to win and more importantly but points on the board.    Real curios to see if one, Ben Roethlisberger can throw with that sprained foot and two, id running back, Rashard Mendenall is able to play nursing a hamstring injury.  Either way, I think Pittsburgh will have to throw.  The over is good here.. barely.

Seahawks at Giants (NYG – 9.5)

Giants are banged up (Jacobs, Tuck, Osi) but Seattle seemingly can’t muster much on an offense on the road.  In fact , the Hawks can’t seem top get much of anything going outside of Qwest Field.  Eli MAnning is clicking, his wide receivers are healthy.  Shouldnt be much of a fight with the G-Men cruising.

Cardinals at Vikings (MIN -3)

Has there been an 0-4 team that has looked so damn good?  The Vikings have blown 4 straight double-digit halftime leads… Last week’s loss may have been as a close to a soul crusher only because the didn’t let their best player, Adrian Peterson, do his thing.  Vikings will win and cover.  If they don’t at least win, they may just deflate the Dome for good and the Vikings can look towards next season.

Bengals at Jaguars (JAX -1.5)

Cincy shocked the world or at least Buffalo with a win last week to send the Bills back down to earth.  In this game you have two rookie quarterbacks trying to make a mark in the game.  The Jags are better and the home game helps.

Chiefs at Colts ( IND -2)

Curtis Painter aka Thor is back under center for Indy.  He really played well despite losing to Tampa Bay. In fact, the Colts have been very competitive. aka cover. So that is always good for business.   On the Kansas City sideline, Matt Cassel and Todd Haley were jawing back and forth. hey it worked they got off the floor and won.  I like Indy.. why they hell not.

Saints at Panthers (Over 51)

New Orleans is good for at least 35 of the 51.  That leaves the question can Cam Newton, Steve Smith and Jeremy Shockey be good for 17 points.  I think so.  Good story line with Shockey playing against his former team. He will be all sorts of amped.  Really looking forward to Drew Brees and Newton putting on a show.

Raiders at Texans (HOU -5.5)

The Texans really came of age last week in beating the Steelers.  Easily the biggest win in franchise history.  Now comes time to separate themselves from Tennessee in the AFC South.  At 3-1 this is another must win for Houston.  The Raiders have come back to earth after losing to Buffalo and New England. Don’t know how many points we’ll see with Andre Johnson out for Houston. So lots of running with Darren McFadden for Oakland and Arian Foster for the Texans.  I still think Houston is a touchdown better than the Raiders. that 48.5 is a little minx.

Buccaneers at 49ers ( SF -3)

Jim Harbaugh has me drinking the kool-aid.  They play for him and man, he actually got Alex Smith to come up big in a game.  Josh Freeman has been quite erratic for Tampa Bay.  Gonna be ugly and probably a push but I like the Niners at home.

Chargers at Broncos (SD -3.5)

San Diego is off to a fast start much to the relief of Charger fans.  A 4-1 start could actually cause Charger nation to be thinking Super Bowl.  Lets face it. They’ve beaten Minnesota (0 wins), Kansas City (1 win) , Miami (0 wins) and lost to New England.  Lucky for the Chargers, the schedule maker has put another lousy team in front of them.  Not even, Denver’s vaunted home field advantage works this week.  Chargers easy… will we see Tim Tebow?

Jets at Patriots (NYJ +7)

I just can’t see a Rex Ryan team getting housed three weeks in a row. The defense has given up 34 points in back to back games.  The Jets talk a lot of smack but often do back it up. This game will be the best of the week.. it will be close.  Ryan won’t let Mark Sanchez beat him so it is back to the Trent Dilfer style of quarterbacking.  Jets will get to Tom Brady.  New England wins but by a field goal.

Packers at Falcons (over 52.5)

This is the season for the Atlanta Falcons.  Remember, Matt Ryan doesn’t lose in the Georgia Dome ( just in the playoffs).  But it was the Packers that ended Atlanta’s season last year.  Aaron Rogers is clicking.. he shredded the Broncos last week for a regular season career best 408 yards passing.  He also threw 4 TDs and ran for two more.  I see lots and lots of points and a Green Bay win.

Bears at Lions (CHI +5)

Way too much momentum happening in Detroit sports right now.  The Lions are 4-0 , the Tigers are in the American LEague Championship Series… if anyone can put a stop to all this harmony… it is the Lions.  Detroit is scary not because they are 4-0, but because they have dug themselves out of three huge deficits to win three of those four games.  Chicago will play them tough.. and cover. Don’t be surprised if the Bears walk out of Ford Field with a win.
