Picky Picks for Week 7

Here we go friends… time to serve up a heaping helping of winners….

Redskins at Panthers (MY PICK: CAROLINA -2.5)

The Rex Grossman era is over for now in D.C.  John Beck is now under center for Mike Shanahan and the Redskins.  Always tricky when a new QB takes the reigns.  Washington’s slide is now in full effect.  I like the Panthers and Cam Newton winning their second game of the season. Hopefully Ron Rivera won’t screw this one up.

Texans at Titans  (MY PICK: TENNESSEE -3)

Titans head coach,  Mike Munchak,  has the right idea when it comes to this AFC South matchup.  If there are games you have to win.. it is the games against Houston.  The Texans per usual are a mess riding a two game losing streak.  They are sitting at 3-3 behind the 3-2 Titans.  I like Tennessee at home simply because Houston finds ways to lose these games.

Bears at Buccaneers (MY PICK: TAMPA BAY + 1.5)

No real home field advantage here.  The game is being played in London.  Big game for both squads.  Chicago (3-3) is three games behind Green Bay in the NFC North but only two games back of the Lions.  It is a must win game for the Bears.  The Bucs (4-2) are tied atop the NFC South with New Orleans.  I like Tampa Bay simply because the Bears are imploding.  Jay Cutler and offensive coordinator, Mike Martz are not getting along.  Matt Forte and Lance Briggs are thinking about contracts.. A loss for the Bears could mean the end for that team looking towards 2012.

Chargers at Jets  (MY PICK: NY JETS -1)

San Diego has an impressive 4-1 mark but look at who they’ve beaten: Minnesota, Kansas City, Miami, and had to hang on to beat Denver. Not a great resume.  There only loss was to the Patriots having to make that long cross-country flight.  San Diego has to once again jet east where a loss surely awaits. The Jets seem to have righted the ship after three straight losses.  LaDainian Tomlinson gets his first start of the season against the team he was league MVP for in 2006.   The Jets seem, top have put their locker room squabbles aside and are ready to win. It is essentially a pick ’em , but I like the Jets.

Broncos at Dolphins (MY PICK: MIAMI)

The game is listed as a pick ’em with reason. It is a battle of AFC bottom feeders as the 1-4 Broncos meet the 0-5 Dolphins.  The main event on this SUnday will be God’s quarterback (Tim Tebow) getting the start for the hapless Broncos.  Why not right?  Only thing is they just traded away their best receiver in Brandon Lloyd!  Does this mean Denver doesn’t want Tebow to succeed…Andrew Luck anyone? Bottom line is Miami isn’t going to go winless… they have to win a game right? This should be the one.  Plus,  Matt Moore has another week in that offense to figure it out… and with the Dolphins honoring the University of Florida before the game.. I can see some real angry Dolphin players trying to ruin Tebow’s homecoming.

Falcons at Lions (MY PICK: OVER 47 )

This is a HUGE game for the Lions.  This may well decide whether if even at 5-1, Detroit is for real.  The 49ers pushed them around last week.  That might have exposed them to a bruising running back.  Atlanta’s Michael Turner ran rough-shot over the Panthers last week to a tune of 139 yards on the ground and two touch downs.  But the real show will be Matt Ryan versus Matt Stafford   Wouldn’t surprise me if the number hits in the first half.  LOCK OF THE WEEK!

Seahawks at Browns ( MY PICK: SEATTLE +3)

If you know me, you know I love Pete Carroll.  He shocked the world with a win at the Giants.  And hey the Hawks are the defending NFC WEST CHAMPS!!!  The Browns have no idea what is happening with Peyton Hillis.  I guess the Madden video game cover curse strikes again.  His agent is essentially deciding when he can play.  The team and the media think he’s soft after not playing with a case of strep.  AND he is dealing with a legit hamstring injury that probably will hinder him all season long.. And by the way he wants a new deal.. Causing the boss, Mike Holmgren to grouse from upstairs.. Too much non-football related news happening with the Browns.. This game will be close  but Charlie Whitehurst at QB, spelling an injured Tarvaris Jackson will lead the way.  Really.   I like Seattle in a mess of a game.

Steelers at Cardinals ( MY PICK: ARIZONA +4)

Steelers are banged up.. heard that before right.  Arizona is in all sorts of trouble with Kevin Kolb unable to get in sync with Larry Fitzgerald.  It’s not all the way to the west coast,  but I think the Steelers show up a little flat in the desert.. They win but the Cards get the cover.

Chiefs at Raiders ( MY PICK: OVER 40.5)

Carson Palmer will not start for Oakland on Sunday.. That is to be expected with only five days of practice with his new teammates.  Either way I look for the Chiefs to win the game out right.  K.C. may have found themselves after a slow start.  Kyle Boller may prove how valuable Palmer will be to the silver and black after all.

Packers at Vikings (MY PICK: VIKINGS +10)

It’s the old story.  Never get in a land war in Asia, never tug on Superman’s cape and never go against a double digit home dog.  Well, that theory gets a good test this week.  undefeated packers.. terrible Vikings, who by the way are staring Christian Ponder at quarterback.  Ugh.  Green Bay should win but they do struggle in the dome of Minnesota.  Bearing the roof caving in again.. Green Bay should have no trouble.  Here’s hoping the Vikes get off to another fast start to get that cover.

Rams at Cowboys  ( MY PICK: DALLAS -13)

Not much to say here.  Rams are winless.  Their offense is terrible.  Quarterback,  Sam Bradford,  might not play with a high ankle sprain.  Gonna be lots of energy in Arlington on Sunday.  Cowboys pounce the Rams while feet away the Rangers will be hosting another St. Louis team, the Cardinals in Game Four of the World Series.  At least the St. Louis media types saved a couple of bucks on travel this weekend.

Colts at Saints ( MY PICK: OVER 47.5)

This was a good idea back when the schedule was made. But with no Peyton Manning it has been all down hill for Indy.  To his credit, Curtis Painter ahs been serviceable but it hasn’t translated to any wins.  Saints head coach, Sean Payton,  won’t be on the field after breaking his leg last week during a sideline collision. He will be calling plays from the booth Sunday night.  This will be a good excercise for the Saints coaches and player without their head coach on the sideline. Saints easy this week…

Ravens at Jaguars (My Pick: Under 40)

This may have been the toughest one to pick this week.  The Ravens defense should eat up the young Jags offense.  Only question is can the Jacksonville defense keep the Ravens in check to keep that number under 40.  Should be interesting..
