IND AT CHI (-9.5) Luck/Pagano era begins in Indy. Bears defense with fiesty ends and Urlacher w/something to prove will make it a long day for the rook. Jay Cutler has Brandon Marshall back as a target.
PICK: Bears giving the points
PHI (-9.5) AT CLE
Philly is my NFC Super Bowl team. media will have plenty to write and report (vick’s bullet proof vest, Reid’s swan song season) Browns have a rook QB which is always a wild card but bottom line.. Philly has too much on offense and will just keep scoring.
PICK: Eagles giving the points
STL (+8.5) AT DET
Jeff Fisher is back in the NFL now trying to rebuild the Rams. Good choice too as he is no stranger to rebuilding a team that may be on their way out of town. Rams won’t be as bad as last year and won’t win Sunday BUT I think they may be good enough to cover. A commitment to running Steven Jackson keeps Bradford and Megatron off the field.
PICK: Rams getting the points
MIA AT HOU (-13)
This is the #nfl version of Savannah State/Florida State. Wade Phillips’ defense is gonna go to work on a questionable Miami offensive line and newborn QB Ryan Tannehill. Look for plenty of Miami field goals and lots of Texans points.
PICK: Texans laying the points .
ATL (-3) AT KC
Romeo Crennel gave KC fans some hope winning a couple games as interim head coach last season but there is still work to do. Crennel is a defensve guy and that side of the ball is a mess. That will open the door for Matt Ryan and the Falcons offense. Look for a huge game from Tony Gonzalez playing his first game as a visting player at Arrowhead.
PICK: Falcons with an easy cover
JAX AT MIN (-3.5)
lets make this one brief. Maurice Jones-Drew and Adrain Peterson may not be at their best in this tirle. MJD coming off a hold out, AP coming off a serious knee injury. That means Blaine Gabbert and Christian Ponder will have to shouder the load under center. Prolly not a lot of points despite being indoors so the UNDER (37.5) is a smart bet. but do yourself a favor and stay off this game.
PICK: Vikings laying the points
NE (-4.5) AT TEN
It is the Patriots. It is Tom Brady. Probabaly the easiest game of the week next to the Texans over the Dolphins. The real temptation is not using the Pats in your suicide pools to acvoid the Week One jitters. If you want to actually pay attentipon to this game the UNDER (47.5) will be more of a sporting bet. It will come in.. just barely though.
PICK: Patriots cover
You know how much fun it would be if the Jets actually lost Week One!?!? The Circus is already in town.. might as well give the people what they want. Bills are going to be good this year. Defense got a lot better and the Amish Rifle will be in full effect. That will force Mark Sanchez to throw and mistakes will happen. The game really smells like a PUSH.. but hey I’ll circle the wagons this week.
PICK: Bills getting the points.
WAS AT NO (-8.5)
Very curious to see what, if any, impact the reinstatement of Will Smith and Jonathan Vilma will have on the game. Reports have Vilma not playing (knee) but Smith may get after it on Sunday for the Saints. What is for sure is that head coach, Sean Payton is still out of the picture as he is suspened for the entire season. That may take a toll as the season progresses, but not this Sunday. The Over is also a pretty safe bet. Robert Griffin III will help push the total over 49.5 with his skills added to the Redskins offense.
PICK: Saints laying the points
SEA (-3) AT AZ
There is some serious coin on the bench for both these teams. Seattle “back up” QB, Matt Flynn signed a 3-year, $26 miliion deal. Cardinals “back up” Kevin Kolb is in the middle of a 5-year $62 million contract. They will be holding clipboards as Russell Wilson gets the start for Seattle and John Skelton foir the Cards. Seattle has more talent on the field led my Marshawn Lynch at running back. He will take the pressure off the rook QB. They will move the chains, keep the AZ defense on the field wearing them down. A moving clock might make the UNDER ( 40.5) a good bet.
PICK: Seahawks laying the points
SF AT GB (-5)
Best of the late games. Packers best offense last year vs the Niners who had the best defense. SF brought in some weapons with Jacobs, Manningham. Even Moss should help. The Packers are just a machine. And that machne will roll on Sunday. I’m saying GB posts at least 30 and even with the new toys, SF isn’t getting into that rarefied air. I do like the OVER (46.5).
PICK: Packers laying the points
CAR (-3) AT TB
Cam Newton is poised to have a monster year. Head Coach, Ron Rivera lets his best player play. Only way to go is up for the Panthers. gonna be tough trying to run with the Saints and Falcons but they have the high octane offense. The Buccaneers meanwhile, are in total rebuild. Greg Schiano is running things in Tampa trying to make the move from college to the pros. Hope his players can too.
PICK: Panthers giving the points.
The Steelers return to the site where their season came to sudden and shocking conclusion losing in OT wild card weekend. The Broncos meanwhile upgraded from Tim Tebow to Peyton Manning. The first lick Peyton takes will have all NFL fans holding their collective breath. After that, it will be business as usual for 18. Pittsburgh is hurt defensively and Denver will exploit. I don;t think this will be much of a game. Broncos blow them out.
PICK: Broncos easy cover
